To his Excellency Archibald Roane Governor of the State of Tennessee.
The petition of the Subscribers inhabitants of the County of Greene residing within the bounds of Captn. [K?] Company humbly showeth that by reason of the resignation of Hugh Nielson Esqr. as a Justice of the peace, they have been subjected to many conbeniency for want of a magistrtate within said bounds,
They beg leave to represent that many of them are under the necessity of traveling to the distance of eight or ten miles to the nearest Justice to whom they can [resort?] on the numerous occasions which require the inter= ference of a Magistrate. By the above mentiond [sic] resignation Cap. '_'s Company is left without a single Justice of the Peace, although from the number of Citizens composing it, and their [?] relative situation, seat [tend over?] so considerable an extent of Country, we conceive that a real necessity exists for the number to which the Consititution intitles [sic] us. Until this can be [?] effected at the next meeting of the Legisla= ture, we earnestly request that your Excellency will be pleased to extend to us the constitutional relief vested in you by filling the present vacany, and as a Suitable Person beg leave to recommend Mr Thomas Conway as a person in whole integrity and abilities we can safely confide, and whose appointment we conceive will be ^generally accept= able to those who are interested in the same. Your Excellency's compliance with our request will in our estimation confer on the citizens a public be= nefit, and as such be estimated by your Excellencys obedt. Servants, who as in duty bound will we pray -
