Gov. W. Trousdale Oct. 29th 1849 -
Dr. Sir,
After promising my best reports to you with a hope that these may find you & your in good helath. & prosperity. I enform [sic] you that my famly [sic], is well with the exception ofmyself I have had very bad health nearly all this summer past and not march improvement as yet -
My friends and neighbour Daivd L. Craig will be an applicant forthe office of taking the census for Maury County the year 1850. I am informed that the Marshall of the state is a man by the name of Brown an [inter?] stranger to me and as I once had some acquaintance with you and spent some time with you at your fathers house in our youtful days and from the relationship that exists between us I have concluded ^that I might = appraoch you on that subject without [having?] thought presumptuous or troublesome -
I do not know who else may apply from our county or whether any others will - - But I can & do say for him that he is intirely [sic] capable bein ga good scribe of industrious & sober habbits [sic] and in every respect qualified to attend to that business - You know my object in writing to you about this appointmnet is to endeavour to obtain your In -fluance [sic]as we have no dout of your having influance [sic] with the marshall of ht estate and could we have it exerted in this case it surely will be considered a favor never to be forgotten.
