Dear Sir.

The [motives?] of humanity urged by the humility of a gray head & Some Honest connections are amongst the causes of my thus trespassing upon your time John Lusk who is now under condemnation at Nashville for the crime of rape has been some years a citison [sic] of this county and yet of my own knowledge I know nothing or but little of the man like all Others under affliction his enemies e [?] & his friends pity but the improbability of the crime with all its horrors in a country like this and reflecting that his [?] indi =gence may not have placed on a level with most others in defending himself against the causes of his count =try has induced my Self amonst [sic] others
