[page damaged]

[re]gret to find that one packet of last [page damaged] was not sent up by Mr Howard. At [page damaged] departure, I was greatly afflicted with the [page damaged] which accounts for the omission. I hope [page damaged] an opportunity of sending it up to day. [page damaged] The commissions on the inclosed [sic] return may be sent to Charles McCrory Nashville post office, if issued within a week or ten days.

Please to include in your next quarters account nine dollars for a ream of paper and some wafers which I bought yesterday.

The late news from New York has effected [sic] your friend Balet greatly - he has not, says rumour, been seen in the streets since. If you can prescribe a remedy for his disease, I pray you do so, that he may be restored to life and activity again.

You will do me a favor ^by getting C. [Suble?] to learn from Col.o Smith, the [page damaged] will take in cash for his old man Jack.

I shall certainly be up the first favorable weather.

I have not yet heard from General La Fayette. If his answer does not come very shortly, I shall forward through General Jackson a duplicate of the preamble and resolutions

Thine truly Wm Carroll
