Dear Sir,

Inclosed you will find the resignation of Saml Wilson as Surveyor General of the 9th District as well as his recommendation of William L Petty as qualified for the office.

Mr Petty having produced other testimonials of his character and capacity, and no other person applying for the office, I have determined to give him the pro-tem appoinment. He has in his possession a bond with security, on the delivery of which be pleased to hand him a commission.

The inclosed militia return was received a few days since.

Mr McKinny has accepted the office of Special Judge.

I expect Evander to spend the evening with me, in company of some of our best belles-

Yours truly

Wm Carroll
