Hamilton County Tennessee August 30th 1830.

Sir

In April last I Transmited [sic] to you my Resignation of the Surveyors appointment in this County and being Requested by many citizens to Recommend to your consideration some person to fill the vacancy I will nominate Mr. Jarrett Poe & I have no hesitancy in saying that I believe him as well qualified as any Man in our County he is a Young Man of Steady & Morral [sic] habits & I have no doubt should you favour him with the appointment that he will fulfill the place to satisfaction of the public & with Credit to himself

Dallas, Hamilton County August 23. 1830 -

Dr. Sir,

I am here attending court, and on my arrival learned that a vacancy enisted [sic] in the office of County Surveyor - It is the wish of the people here that Capt. George George should receive this pro tem appointment and through me make the recommendation - You know this is one of my provinces, and that I feel duly solicitous for a correct administration of its affairs - You further more know that I would not design edly mislead my friend Gov. Carroll It is therefore with confidence that I recommend Capt. George, and hope to see him
