3:15 After getting ticket + getting in like and going to bathroom I sarted to relax. Notice very few cars going to Lopez but Orcas (my) lanes are full after awhile. DISCOVER THAT MYSTERY MT IS [underline] BAKER. And I noticed on map there's a log road rup to North end of Shannon Lake by Mt Shuksan. Road about Orcas and see how to get to Mt Constitution, hopeful by sunset. 4:30 Finally start boarding ferry. Lots of cars to load. Beautiful grip thr the islands. Took lots of pics. Glad I brought binoculars, and book full of maps. Not lonesome at all. [pink highlight] 5:30 (Probably) pulled into Orcas = drove way around it to other side. Very Oregon, with rolling hills + patches of forest. Stopped for supplies. Up partway to Mt Constitution, and saw breathtaking view and tried to figure it all cute. Saw Lopex [underline] ferry leave. 6:30 Head down + check in+ have drink on house while reading about Movan Park in book. 7:15 Got a dinner. Pretty good, but service slow due to big church group. Very good chowder + chicken. 8:45 Ask about "higher grade" room. Tro to switch to studio tomorrow. In future, get room in 2300 or 2400. [yellow highlight][underline]Take a walk to pool. Back to room. Write up the ferry ride, to here. 9:30 Read chap 13 + 14 of Mask of Apollo. To bed.
Wed Oct 7 '87 Sunny 70 Wake up. Think about my feeling in Chess, and what I feel when I try to play it. See evening note too. [red ink]. Music too. [pink highlight] 7:45 Get up. Misc. Go eat, reading about San Juan Island. Doesn't sound as great as Orcas, to me. Decide to visit it on the way to Sydney, BC, another trip.
