Duponts landing – On Tuesday night we camped out in the open air in a short[?] launch[?] – Being very tired I slept very good & in the morning started again a foot to Lang’s landing a distance of about 30 miles from St. Augustine. The boats being light were taken round to the same point. Here we also found encamped the detachment under Lieut Drysdale who had come by land with the teams which now had to take the boats & transport them to Bulows Landing a distance of about 10 miles

orders to march for Baldwin where the rest of Regiment is stationed & where we shall go as soon as all the arms from Symrna have crossed the River. Also annother load of arms & amunition were brought by the steamer from Enterprize.
Thursday 27. To day we delievered our old arms up & were supplied with new Enfield Rifles with sabre bayonett. 40 cartridges were given to each man. Liutenant Irvin Drysdale & Private Dan. Mikler started for St. Augustine to try if could get into the town & see for themselves how things are

out again. But everything remained quiet. This evening Liut. Drysdale & Dan. Mickler came back from their expedition, but did not bring me the news I desired. I had hoped to recieve a line from my dear wife but no. They had not atempted to get into town. They report that part of Four Comp. of N.H. that part of these about 200 men had gone to Symrna to avenge the death of their comrades for which they said that they would have two

News about the recognition of the Confederacy by France & Spain, the breaking up of the Federal Congress in a row & the border coming in with us with a rush. Gen. Beauregard sent to Secretary of War that he did not want anymore Troops &c&. All very good news. If. True. Sergent Hernandez & Private Jos. Spencer were discharged als Liut. Andrew [?] & went back. I gave James [Crolee?] $25 dollars
