to be executed for ravishing a women in Sparta the Liut to be hung & the privates to be shot. Everything was prepared, the gallows were build & I saw them the graves dug & the coffins made. They were brought out. The men “presented arms” & waited only for the comand to “aim” “fire” when they were reprived. Great rejoicing in camp this evening. The news is brought that another fight was fought at Manasses. 30,000 Fed. killed & 15,000 C. also Gen. McClellan killed, & that Gen. Jackson is with his forces in Washington. Nashville has been taken of possession of by our troops without the firing of a gun. I forgot to mention that our Brigade has been changed again, we are with the 1st Fla & the 41st Miss. in the first Brigade 2d Division under Brig. Gen. Brown & Major Gen. Anderson. Do not know anything about either. Col. Dilsworth was arrested at Dunlap for not taken care of [H. Gane?] arms.
