Dr. David Starr Jordan, Stanford University, Cal.

Dear Dr. Jordan:

We were deeply pained this morning to read in the paper of the sad death of Mrs. Stanford in Honolulu, and filled with horror and indignation at the thought of such a crime. It is indeed pitiful that one who has done as much for others and for humanity should die by being poisoned. It ought to have been permitted to her to die in peace and among her relatives and friends. The memory of her heroic devotion to the welfare of the University will be cherished by future generations as long as the University shall endure.

Yours very sincerely,

Ellwood P. Cubberley.
