easily overcome. Had I not implicit faith in an all-wise loving Father, who listens with a loving heart to the appeals of His children, and to whom I have gone with the humility of a child asking His protecting care, pleading that He will guide and govern the hearts of one and all connected with the University, and so rule that even the Ross incident may be for the ultimate good of the students. I have only one object at heart and it is that the University shall send forth grand men and women who will make themselves felt wherever they may go for the high moral tone of their character, and their love and obedience to the good Father's will.

I needed just such a letter as you have sent me, and it is a singular coincidence that the same mail brought me a letter of the same character from Hon. John W. Foster, and Hon. Whitelaw Reid, about the same time that these precious letters were written to me, made a very brilliant and wonderful address before the students.
