A colde windy day. Marvin killed hogs. Ben & Jim helped him. They sent Reese for Martha Miller. She come and will helpe them for several days until they move. I was there today. Jim and I eat dinner there. Josie got dinner at home. She made some preserves and pickel to day. Poor little Mabel has cried the most of the day. I feel so troubled a bout her and cant do any thing to help her. The children went to school today. It was rough on little ones.
A good day. Ben and Jim and Henry worked tobacco most of the day. Josie and I got dinner. We made some preserves of dew beries that was caned also some peaches. Josie sewed some this evening. I went to Marvins a little while. Miss Bell and Miss Christenia Wooding was there. I was glad to see them. Marvin was working tobacco. 9 30 oclock
A good day. Jim and Ben jobed a round until twelve then Ben went to Mr Dews and worked on his car until night. Nellie Brumfield made some preserves. Josie and I was washing. Bettie Haley came and finished for us. Evylin Brumfield is sick. Jim and Ben has gone to Dr Owens to night. I do hope she may soon be better. 9:30 oclock
A good day. Jim & Ben worked on the barn shelter this morning. Ben went to Strait Stone for oil this evening. He went to Gretna for John & Tenia and Little Christenia. Josie and I got dinner. I killed 4 chickens. Josie baked a cake. Jim & Nellie picked berries this evening. Nellie caned them. Tonight I made some preserves. This morning got the pears from Jim Thomsons. 9 oclock
Rain this morning but not much. Jim and Ben has got some tobacco sticks [?] Josie and I got dinner. We had our first tomatoes. I cooked some plant bed salit to day. We all enjoyed it very much. Josie has bin complaining all day. Virginia went home from here this evening. Hattie brough some berries this evening. Josie and I caned them. Nellie made some preserves this morning. I fell and hurt my self this morning.
A rainy day. The boys pulled some leaves and got wet. Josie went to see the Owen baby. This morning Nellie made some preserves. I caned three cans of peaches and made some preserves. Evylin went to see Virginia this morning. Edna went to Marvins and got some butter and meal. We had snaps and corn and stewed & raw tomatoes, peaches and cream for dinner. I do hope it is going to clear up now. 8:30 oclock
A rainy day most of the day. Ben & Henry suckered tobacco a while. Jim worked on his tobacco. Ben kept up fire/fine [?] in the barn. Josie got dinner. I made a few preserves of peaches that growed here. Pulled green[s] [?] Carrie come a few minutes for some soda. We owed her a pound. Josie is washing dishes now. The baby is a sleep. Kate come to Carries to day to see about some sowing. 8:30 oclock
A good day. No rain. The men folks cut tobacco all day. Josie staid at the barn all day and kept up the fires. Nellie caned some tomatoes this morning and made preserves this evening and picked some beans. I got the dinner. Josie gathered the snaps and corn. This evening I gathered a few beans and got some muskmellon and tomatoes. Earl Bennett eat dinner with us today.
A cloudy all day. Rain tonight. The men cut tobacco all day. Ben & Owen will stay at the barn. Josie caned some tomatoes this morning and made preserves and catchsup. She got most of the dinner. I milked and churned and kept busy most of the day. Miss Willie Wooding come a little while. Henry & Ben went hunting last night. Did not catch anything.
A good day. Marvin planted some Tobacco. Carrie washed this morning She got done before 10 oclock then she killed a chicken for Dinner I gathered some Straw Berries and [cpp] capped them we had all that we could eat & some to Preserves This evening we went to Gretna to see John & Tenia. We eat supper with them John has a nice house we [w??] [Turnished?] I think we got home a bout Dark now we are ready for the Bed.
A good morning. Rained a shower at twelve oclock. It is raining tonight. The men plowed in the tobacco all day. Isla Blair come today and brought Josie some light bread. Mr. and Mrs. [Tower?] & [Edieth?] come. Mrs. Owen come and Mr. [Jennings?] the preacher come. Kate Harvey & [Carrie?] and Reese the other children was at [?] Brumfields. We gathered some peaches and Mrs. [?] made preserves'of them. I heard today that my brother is sick. I do hope he may get well. I am so anxious to hear a gain.
A good day until near night then a rain & wind and some hail. I hope not enough to damage any thing much. Ben & Henry cleared up a barn getting ready to cut tobacco. Ben has gone to Bookers barn now. Mrs Car bathed the children this evening. Mrs Dews sent me some snaps by Mr Nat Wooding. I am glad of them. I made one jar of preserves & one of pickle, and near a gallon of jellie made the damsons that Carrie brought all in jellie.
A good day. Jim & Henry has suckered tobacco all day. Ben staid at the barn is up there tonight. Josie has not bin so [pent?] today. I got dinner and made some damson preserves. This evening I washed a little. Denia come to see Josie. She did not stay but a little while. Said that the girls wanted to go to Ede Hill to night. Irvin Harvey come a few minutes this morning. [a col?] woman[?]come here this morning. Years from now some one may wonder at some of the scratch. I am asleep.
A good day. Ben went to Chatham. Thomson carried him. Jim and Henry and John watered the plant bed. Kate and Irvin come a few minutes this evening. The girls has bin dressed like boys and played all the evening. I filled some pillow ticks with feathers this evening. Did not get the washing done today. Hatties folks has the measles. Henry went to Renan this morning fo sugar. I made three quarts of straw berry preserves this morning. We need rain very bad. Did hope we would have some this evening.
A good day. No rain yet. Ben and Henry went to Gretna. They had a big tim. They eat dinner with Marvin and Carrie. Jim did not go. He worked most of the day. I made three quarts of black berrie preserves and killed two and fried them and baked a cake. That was our dinner. Vegetables has a bout dried up. John Ward had the team and went to Level Run to a big gathering of some sort. I gathered some berries. Intend making jellie tomorrow. The children are all in a glee tonight eating candy and blowing up their balloons. Good night.
A good day. We had a good rain this evening. The wind blowed hard but nothing seriously hurt. Hope it may rain on all the places that need it. Jim and Ben helped Jim Farthing thresh wheat this morning and Bob Starkey this evening. Henry went with Stuart Owens and some more boys fishing. They were in the rain. I made some preserves this morning. Etta Gilbert brought some berries here this evening. I bought them and caned them. Hope they may keep well. Every one feel so glad of the rain. Ben replanted tobacco this evening.
A good day and very hot. The boys plowed tobacco. Henry painted a little. The roof was so hot that he could not do much. My days work was a busy one. I washed dishes. Then got breakfast. Then milked the cows. I made some jellie. Parched coffee. Washed dished. Killed and dressed two chickens. Fried them for dinner. Baked bread and coffee. Then had dinner and washed dishes. Then rested a while. Then went and picked one gallon of berrie. Picked over and fixed them to make preserves. Fed the chickens. Then got supper and washed dishes. Now I am ready to go to bed.
A good morning. Rain this evening and so colde that we need fire. Lee went from here this morning and Marvin went with him. I peeled peaches most of the day. Carrie made four gallons of preserves today. Reese gathered the peaches. The first or nearly the first things that I done today was to spill the ink and got some on my book. Marvin got home a few minutes a go. He had not had his dinner. I certainly wish that I could know how the rain was at home. I am a fraid there was hail in the cloud. It has got [se?] cool.
