Radiology 9 to 9:30. Stopped by tailor's on way back; picked up corduroy jacket rebuttoned. Afternoon - recorded two of Mozart's best divertimentos, 15 and 16, both for horns and strings; fist of these, K. 287. Johnny came to dinner. Steak, with broccoli and potatoes, a California Bordeaux de [brouglet?].

Wednesday, January 22nd [1986] Radiology. 9-9:30, after a ten-minute drive down Union to Baptist special parking. Mike Musso came by; I filed with Medicare for $63 (Soloway) + with United American for $75 (Pathology lab) + $60 (safely). ($32 due from Pathology, $18 from Sefely; Doubtful figures.) Paid Pathology Lab $3265; paid Soloway $63. Recorded Mozart’s Haffner Serenade + Il simfonia Concertante K.297b – a 90-min cassette.

Thursday, January 23rd [1986] Radiology 9-9:15; redness + itching, though both minor, have begun ahead of schedule; may mean difficulty down the road, alas. Bank; cashed $300 check. Recorded Mozart’s “Posthorn” Serenade + The Serenade for 13 winds, K.320, 361. Walked two miles; played Haffner Serenade, done yesterday. Called Hanley Ingrams at bank; got CD, which matures Monday the 27th, extended till Feb. 10 so as to renew it after the arrival of my regular early-February $10,000 arrives from Random. Will raise CD to $27,500; interest will go into checking account at that time. Phone call from Ric Burns7 in Washington wanting to set up camera interview for late Feb. or early March; I told him of Medical schedule + suggested Shiloh anniversary in early April. We’ll see. Took Gwyn to Bombay for dinner. Home by 9 oclock.

Friday, January 24th [1986] End of first week’s radiation; home by 9:30. Colder weather, but up over 40 by midmorning. Walked 2.5; played Mozart Divertimento 15

Saturday, January 25th [1986] Cereal breakfast; bacon + egg later. Walked two miles shortly after midday; played Beethoven piano sonatas + bagatelles. Read Tolstoy’s “Death of Ivan Ilych,” which holds up very well indeed. Watched Bill Maysls’ TV (CBC) special on the disintegration of the black urban family; “babies having babies,” etc. Considerably diminished in effect by drawn-out barrage of commercials which showed the producers + sponsors as greedily materialistic as the subject of the people under examination. Received bank summations (for IRS) of interest earnings for the year: $3,42619.
