Description: Incomplete whaling journal belonging to Jacob Strong of Amagansett. Entries kept August 16, 1845 through September 12, 1846. This account contains whaling stamps, crew list, and double-sided back cover illustration of mariner's compass possibly drawn by Henry L. Van Scoy. According to "History of the American Whale Fishery" by Alexander Starbuck, the Henry (with George B. Brown as captain; Samuel L'Hommedieu as owner/agent) sailed out of Sag Harbor, N.Y. on August 22, 1845 for whaling along the N.W. coast and returned May 24, 1847. The ship was sold in 1847.
