Description: Whaling logs of the ships Hannibal and Marcus, kept by John Hand of Wainscott. Includes pages from the log of the Minerva, as well. Pages 1-68: account kept aboard the whaling ship Minerva, on a voyage from Sag Harbor, N.Y. to the South Atlantic, 3 June 1822 - 1 April 1823, commanded by George A. Post, captain (cataloger's note: first page partially torn, last few pages of voyage missing, close to home port). Pp.'s 69-80: ledger titled "Wainscott," from March 1 - April 10, 1825, listing names and purchases/sales of goods, such as rum, brandy, Union gin, molasses, clothing, grains, sugar, etc. presumably for outfitting of upcoming whaling voyage. Page 81: untitled poem by Albert Hand (presumably relation of John Hand, keeper of journal). Pp.'s 83-104: account kept aboard the whaling ship Marcus, on a voyage from Sag Harbor, N.Y. to the South Atlantic, (launch and return dates unknown, as account is incomplete, but first entry is 29 July 1825, taking on provisions in the Azores, and last entry, while still at sea whaling, is 1 November 1825, commanded by Uriah Sayre, captain.
