Saturday the 19 th October 1833

Commenced with light breezes from the
W ward at daylight in the morning set
all possible sail & steered to the E ward
Saw large quantities of finbacks
middle & latter part the wind & weather
about the same Saw a number of whales
lowered & chased Struck & killed one that
sunk at 8 [o'clock] double reefed our Top
sails and stand qr [quarter] watches So remains

Sunday the 20 th

Began with Fresh Gales about W N W
at 6 in the morning turned out the reefs
& steered to the N ward by the wind Soon
saw whales lowered & gave close chase but to no
affect came alongside & took up our boats
& double reefed our Top Sails Saw a number
of whales but too trough to lowere at sun
set turned out the reefs & steered to the
E ward Stand hole watches So goes all
well Lat Obsd 33:11 Long 6:00

Monday the 21 fst

Light westerly breezes throughout the
day Ship under all sail Course E by S
per Compass Saw a great many hump
backs & finbacks but no whales
all hands Employed in Stowing our
Sperm Oil at Sun set furled Top
Sails & lay by So goes all well
Lat Obs 33:05 Long 7:01 East
