Monday August 25th 1845 This day we have small winds from the Northward. Steer SE by E. Weather foggy occasionally. Latter part saw two whales. Struck one which stove a boat badly breaking the keel in three places. Ends. Latt [LATITUDE] Obs [OBSERVATION] 50 47 North Long [LONGITUDE] by Chro. [CHRONOMETER] 168 48 East Take in sail hoping to see more whales --

Tuesday Aug. 26th Light airs and calms. Can get nowhere, no do nothing. Latter part rain. -- Latt [LATITUDE] nothing at all Long [LONGITUDE] the same. [VERTICAL TEXT IN THE LEFT MARGIN: Struck a whale got badly stove]

Wednesday Aug. 27th This day we have a gale with rain from ENE. Ship with close reefed main top sail heading North. So ends the day. Latt [LATITUDE] [Obs CROSSED OUT] by Acct [ACCOUNT] 50°=10" or 51 just as you like.

Thursday Aug. 28th Fore part it blows a gale with rain. At Meridian moderating. Make sail and steer by the wind ESE. Saw nothing. Latt [LATITUDE] by Acct [ACCOUNT] 51=05" N Long [LONGITUDE] by Acct [ACCOUNT] 168 00 East

Friday August 29th Make sail in the morning and carry to the S & E with fresh gales from the Northward. Latt [LATITUDE] by Acct [ACCOUNT] 50=20 Long [LONGITUDE] by Acct [ACCOUNT] 169°=30" East

Saturday August 30th This day we have fresh gales from the Northward. Steer SE by E. Saw several finbacks. So ends one of the long and tedious days.
