Ship France cruiseing for whales

Monday, Oct. 4th, 1839.

All of these 24 Hours Calm fine weather and
no Fish a sign of lazy times at 8 A. M unbent
the Fore & Mizin Top Sails repaired and bent
them again. Saw nothing this Day water green
and of good colour no Birds but 3 Ships

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 35" 51 South. Longitude per watch 171" 52 west.

Tuesday Nov 5th, 1839.

All of these 24 Hours light airs from the North
Steering South Ship Mercury & Lydia in Sight
at 4 P. M. Saw many Fin backs but no Right
whales. water green. Hands employed in repairing
the Jib & Main Sail

So ends.
Latitude Obs. 36" 35 South. Longitude per watch 172" 15 west.

Wednesday Nov 6th, 1839.

First part moderate from the North made Sail
Steering by the wind to the west at 7 A. M Saw 1
Right whale Feeding struck and killed took him
alongside and cut him in made all Sail
again working to the windward but saw nothing but
Fin backs & Red Feed Ship Adeline in Sight
Middle & Latter Hours fresh breezes and Cloudy.
at Sunset took in Sail and commenced Boiling

Latitude Obs. 36" 46 South. Longitude per watch 172" 50 west.

Thursday Nov 7th, 1839.

All of these 24 Hours fresh gales from the North
and Cloudy lying too heading to the Eastward
untill 2 P. M. wore Ship to the west Spoke Ship
Roman of New Bedford Bartlet master 2900 blls.

So ends Boiling

Sun Obscure. Latitude by acc. 36" 50 South. Longitude by acc. 172" 45 west.
