Here is the written history of the Mexica who came from the place of Aztlan. Four calpullis came from an island. And as they performed rites on a boat, they laid down macxoyatl. Eight calpullis came from the Quinehuayan cave.

The Huexotzinca made up the first calpulli; the Chalca the second; the Xochimilca the third; the Cuitlahuaca the fourth; the Malinalca the fifth; the Chichimeca the sixth; the Tepaneca the seventh; and the Matlatzinca the eighth.

The eight calpullis had their home in Colhuacan. After the Mexica left Aztlan, the people from Colhuacan, who had seem them, greeted them immediately.
They said to the people of Aztlan: “Our dear lords, where are you going? Let us come with you!”
The Aztecs responded, “Where will we take you?"
“No, dear lords,” answered the eight calpullis, “It is us who will take you.”
And then the calpullis from Aztlan said, “That is fine with us. Take us somewhere.”
