FORT WORTH, TEXAS. Aug. 20, 1906. 190

Hone. the Mayor and City Council,
Ft. Worth, Texas.

Gentlemen:

In the matter of attached petition of M. E. Loyd, W. E. Connell
et al, asking that steps be taken to have the the crossing of the
Santa Fe and Central Rys. on south Main St. be improved in such
manner as to decrease probility of accident, I have the honor to
report: -

That I find conditions about as stated in the petition, but
that I can see no reasonabe way to improving the situation without
an unreasonably large expense, one in fact that the Railroads would
probably resist most strenuously.

The Santa Fe has an automatic electric warning bell which
ought to be effective in preventing accidents on its part, and I
am inclined to think that the situation will be sufficiently improved
if the H. & T. C. RY. is also required to maintain such
a warning bell.

I therefore, recommend that the City Secretary be instructed
to notify the proper officials of that road to construct and maintain
such a device.

Respectfully,
[signed) John B. Hawley
City Engineer
W. N.C.
