& we began to descend by as the same
crooked a course as we came passing
through the coal mineing regions.
After straining our eyes almost freezing our
hands looking at the scenery for about
40 inches, we found ourselves riding
in the pleasant country in the vicin-
-ity of Pittsburg, at which place we
arrived about 9 oclock. Here we
marched to the City Hall where we
found a good supper waiting for
us. After supper we changed cars &
proceded over the Chicago & Crestline
RR. We passed the Ohio line about
6 o'clock in the morning and at
Alliance we got the best cup of coffee
we had on the rout. We dashed along
the passing through a beautiful
country covered with good farmes
where sheep hogs & cattle were evry
where to be seen and arrived at

Crestline at 4 PM of Monday. The
train stopped here but after min-
-utes & dashed along the Cincinnati
& Culline RR. all night & Tuesday
morning we found ourselves with-
-in 40 miles of Cincinnati. We un-
loaded at C. about 8 oclock & march-
-et two-miles through the city. It
was here we found patriotism of
the true stamp, the streets were
thronged with people, the windows &
balconies filled with ladies waving
flags & pockethandkerchifs. We cheered
evry flag we passed. I guess the people
of C. and on the whole rout found
out that the soldiers of the 9th army
Corps were not all demoralized

We waited till nearly noon & then
filed into the long market house
and each one helped himself to good
ham. bolongny, sausage herren nice
