By Capt Scott (as I have not time now) I shall send you
an Invoice of Goods to be put up & sent by Marshall for the
Supply of a Shop to a person I am going to put into that
Branch; and of which more by Scott, I mean to be sent if the
Stamp act be repeald. this Invoice will be nearly like Mr Jenkins's
that you may make some Provision~

I have drawn larger on you than I intended by this, but
could not avoid it, they rest with you except a Trifle. you must
excuse me, I shall be constantly send[in]g you Bills. the Cost of
Goods you will consider I frequently discharge before Due. that
upon the whole I believe I do tolerably well. - The Bill I
have drawn on you in fav[ou]r Clemt Jackson was purely to
Engage his Correspondence & concerns to you; he applied to
me for advice with respect to the houses at home. I strongly
recommended him to you, & to fix him engag'd him what
Bills he might want; this Mr Jacksons Father is a man of
Estate, tho' I cant say he makes himself liable. he writes you
by this opp[ortunit]y for a parcell of goods much more than the Amo[un]t
of this Bill, you will act your pleasure as to sending them
but from what I can collect from Mr Jackson he is well
dispos'd & believe will use his Endeavours to be punctual in
his remittances & think you may make Tryal of him without
any great risque, but do as you judge best; he is young &
in course of time may make an agreeable Correspondent.~

You cannot be sensible what a state of Confusion
this Stamp act has brought us into. I have been for sometime
past so Engagd in publick matters with respect to the redress
of our present Grievances that I am prevented fullfilling my
Promise of sending all accounts by this, they shall be sent by
Scott & Hunter, as also the state of Sewell & Lewis affairs, our
Custom house is now open without the use of Stamps & we are
in hopes the Courts of Justice will be open'd shortly & things go
on in the usual way. I hope there will be no difficulty with
respect to Marshalls Clearance. if the Stamp act should be
laid aside you will send all my goods & pay let them be
