Mr. Samuel Hughes

Sir

I rec’d your fav’r of 10th ult’o. There remains in my
hands unsold of the starch that I rec’d per Filgham for acco’tt of the late
company of Messrs. Buchanan & Hughes near 40 casks & no market for
it. The only way I have been able to put it off for some time past, is by gett’g
a person to go out with it & sell it by the pound &c. There is no way of making
a quick sale of it, but at vendue & then it will go very low. The way I am now
in will take a long time to get it off. Some of the casks I find are much damag’d
which suppose to be occasiond in the voyage here & was notic’d by the surveyors.
I cant find there is any chance of bettering the price by sending it elsewhere.
Should be glad of Mr. Bechanan’s directions what to do with it as soon as
may be as what is damag’d growes worse. I am with compliment to Mr.
Buchanan
