Boston Octo.r 19th 1765
Sear Sir
I am unfortunately involv'd in some difficulties in your government &
must begg your kind assistance to ectricate me from them. you know the affair
I had with the Hart which I thought I had got into a good way of getting my
money you may rember the Sloop Yellow Bird was made over to me for securi-
ty which I consented should be sold on those gentlemens paying me the proceeds
they accordingly sold her to Mess.rs Joshua Saunders & Robert Stevens & game me
those gentlemens Note of hand for the amount which I lodgd with Mr Howard
who transacted the whole affair the money being now due I wrote to Mr Sauders
to payment in answer to which he tells me Mess.rs Harts have taken
up to the value of 700 Dollars of Mr Stevens & £ 100 Lawful of Mr Saunders
himself on the Credit of that note & they can do nothing about the payment
of it till that is settled this is a matter that distresses me very much & with
the many other disappointments that I have met with preys very much on
my spirits that I must intrest of you to interest yourself in this affair
& endeavour to get justice doneme that I may not be obligd to persue the
disagreeable tedious & uncertain steps of the Law to obtain my just right. I
know your sentiment of honor & fair dealing are so repugnant to the actions
of these men as they are represented to me that I doubt not that alone wou'd
Stimulate you to interfere in my behalf & as I hope I have some interest
in your friendship I think it needless to say any more to urge you to
give me your assiatance which shall always be greatfully acknowledged by
your friend & hum'e Servant
