Strangulated Hernia

Description

When fatty tissue or a section of the small intestine pushes through a weakened area of the abdominal wall, and the surrounding abdominal muscle contracts tightly around it. If the contents of the hernia are not able to be reduced, the hernia is called "incarcerated". If the contents of the hernia have reduced blood flow, the hernia is called "strangulated", which is a surgical emergency.
