Description

An infection of the superficial layer of the skin (upper dermis), extending to the superficial lymphatic vessels, characterized by a raised, bright red rash, usually caused by the bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes (group A β-hemolytic streptococci) entering through a break in the skin.
