Guaiacum officinale

Guaiacum is a genus of 5 species of flowering plants in the Caltrop family Zygophyllaceae. The wood of several species is called lignum vitae ("wood of life"), so named for its medicinal uses. It's the source of gum guaicum, (aka guaiac resin), which was thought to stimulate menstruation and possibly induce abortions.
