Datura stramonium is an annual herb in the nightshade family Solanaceae. All parts of the plant contain dangerous levels of the tropane alkaloids atropine, hyoscyamine, and scopolamine, which cause a state of profound and long-lasting disorientation or delirium (anticholinergic syndrome) and is potentially fatal.
