Smallpox

An infectious disease caused by two virus variants, Variola major and Variola minor. The risk of death was about 30% (higher among babies), those who survived had extensive scarring of the skin, and some were left blind. The World Health Organization (WHO) certified the global eradication of smallpox in 1980. Aka pox, speckled monster, and red plague.
