Description

The first justice was Samuel Barnum, in 1787; first representative, Ebenezer Barnum, in 1787; first born, Ebenezer Stearns, October 18, 1775; first death, Eunice Church; Buel Hitchcock was the first physician and also built the first saw-mill; Isaac Sawyer, first minister, ordained September 24, 1798. Jesse Lyman, major of militia, was at the battle of Plattsburgh. Stephen Haights was many years a leading member of the Legislature, county sheriff, and officer in the U.S. Senate. Died at Washington, D.
