Framed letter dated July 6, 1737, from William Dudley to John Palmer, a member of the Society of the Second Precinct in Marblehead, Massachusetts, requesting the proprietors of the Second Church reconsider releasing Holyoke as pastor, following a vote of the Harvard College Board of Overseers that established a committee to pursue the appointment of Holyoke as College president.

Gentlemen

The Honourable and Reverend Overseers of Harvard College having this day appointed a Committee to apply to the Reverend Mr Holyoke and the people under his per sonal Care for their Compliance with His Election to the presidentship of the said College and to take the most prudent methods to obtain the Same

This is therefore to desire you to call Meeting of your proprietors, as soon as you may think convenient to reconsider [illegible] late vote; and in order thereto to give the said Com mitttee an opportunity to confer with them, and Sollicit them upon this important affair, which So much concerns the welfare of the College and of all the Churches in the Province; as also to desire you to give the Subscribers in behalf of the said Com mittee timely notice of the said Meeting that they may attend the Same
