Manuscript volume. The first thirty-nine pages include diary entries from Page's years as an undergraduate student at Harvard College. Dated July 1757 through March 1761, entries includes short notes about daily activities. Topics covered include expenses, academics, clothing, and travel to and from Cambridge. Twenty-two pages covering 1764 through 1781 contain brief listings of items, generally foodstuffs, received from male and female Danville parishioners identified by name in Danville. The final twenty-six pages contain notes listing area deaths, as well as his own thoughts on topics such as "of light" and "jealousy." The concluding pages include rules "Concerning Grammar."

Biographical Notes

John Page was born on October 19, 1738. He received his AB in 1761 and his AM in 1764 from Harvard College. He was ordained as a Congregational minister in Danville, New Hampshire in 1763. He died of smallpox on January 29, 1783.

July the 13th 1757_______________________

I went to Cambridge and lodged at Mrs Hills the 14th in the Morning was examined before the Teutors then went to Boston and at Night returned to Mrs Hills______________ the 15th in the Morning before the President and then returned Home__________________ the Expence of which was [1 pound 16 shillings 0 pence 0 shillings?] in this Vacation I work'd for the most Part -----------------------------------------------------------------August the 25th came to College to live and lived at the Widow Hand Hancock's the 30th went Home to get Things in Order to move into my Chamber____________ ________________________________________ September the 5th returned to Mrs Hancock where I taryed till the [erasure of "9th"?] the 9th in which I moved in to my chamber and was put into commons

The 10th reakned {reckoned} with Mrs Hancock and deu to her £3 S16 D0 20 and paid her ______________________________ October the 11th was put out of Commons upon account of the Governour’s dinning in the Hall which he did the 12th The 14th was put in again The 29th went home on which I was put out of Commons ______________________________ November the 7th return’d The 8th was put into Commons ______________________________ December the 19th was not well the 20th remained so the 21th hired a horse and slay of Mrs Hastings to go as far as Andover Frye went with me and brought back the horse, for which she asked me 2 dollars. I stayed at Metheuen that night. The next day hired a horse and a boy to bring back the horse which cost me 5 shillings. in this vacancy I had a very bad cold the most of the time but I did some work and read considerable of history

Come from home on foot came as far as Sander's in Willmingtown Next day down to

the 28" paid the steward my first 2 bill which was £5 S1 D9--- and paid the sweeper -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

April the 12th paid [Sir?] Lock my 2d bill of £0 S11 D8

the 13th a provincial fast __________________________

May the 2th the Class was place'd

the 5th went home rid Emerys horse to Andover then went on foot

the 17th returned Joseph came with me

the 18th he went home

the 19th paid the steward one dollar

the 31 went to Boston it being the general election Heard Mr Frink preach an historical sermon not much admir'd
