36) 20 {August} 1750 Visited Widdow Stevens

21. Much hurried with a Mason at work in my house

22. {Church} Mett PM. After prayer &c. I Informed the Brethren - That Joseph Pierce, a brother of the {Church} had bin [been] guilty of the Sin of Intemperance or Drunkenness, in a degree of it - at a Publick house in Billerica - which he owned & related circumstances - And Acknowledged his fault and Asked forgiveness of the {Church} - Upon which there Arose a debate, about the Confession, being made Before the Congregation as usual - at length the Question was [?] wither the Brethren were satisfied with what Mr. Pierce had already offered - it passed in the negative - Then it was put, wither, They Insisted upon it That it should be before the Congregation. It pass'd in the Affirmative - Upon which Mr. Pierce said he could not see his way Clear to make a more {public} Confession than he had now done - but he would {consider} of the Matter. Then I Informed the {Church} of the Case of Isaiah Foster who had owned the {Covenant} &c., guilty of the Same Sin, & in a {public} house at a {public} time - The Case was well known, in the Town, however {John} Parker & {Samuel} Perham were called as Witnesses, and testified that the {Said} Fos- ter was guilty - the {Church} Questioning him, & {them} & after some time & discourse - {Said} Foster Acknowledged his Fault & asked forgiveness - The {Church} expected that his Confession also {Should} be as {public} as the Other -- At The Same Meeting was dismissed Bridget Whitten wife Of [John] Whitten To the {Church} in Greenland In new Hampshire - {Reverend} Mr. Allen Pastor N.B. Her Maiden Name was Bridget Spaulding - {daughter} of {Ebenezer} Spaulding - Her first husbands name Wyman --

25. The same trouble yet - but prepared some discourse for the morrow, taking part of several old sermons -

x26. Lords day. I preach'd all day from {Romans} 10.1 Read Ezra 3 {Chapter}. {Matthew} 20. Baptized Elizabeth the {daughter} of Henry & Susanna Spaulding - Read a Confession of {John} Pierce's & {Isaac} Foster's, they being guilty Of the sin Of Intemperance in a {public} Manner - Notified sacrament & {lecture}

27. This morning I heard, by {Colonel} Stoddard who came from Boston Saturday night last, that my sister Baker had arived at Providence, wither she went to her Husband who is station'd there - I desire to be thankful that she is safe arived, {though} it is a greivous thing, that she is at such a distance from us - PM visited {Zachariah} Emmery -

28. Very much hurried with workmen, Abroad

29. Visited {Colonel} Stoddard, in the Evening {Reverend} Mr. Sargeant Of Methuen came to see me in his way home from Littleton - & lodged with us

30. {lecture} day. {Reverent} Mr. Cotton Of Woburn preached from {Hebrews} 2.3. How shall we [?] Present {Reverent} Messrs Hall & Sargeant - the last being detain'd by reason of his horse, straying away - But toward night he took my horse & went to Dracut - Heard this day Of the parted this life, last Saturday - May I sanctify such bereavement - To all, & Espesially To Minister Of the Gospels

31. Mr. Gowen & Mr. Stephen Whiting Of Boston came to see me, dined with me, & PM Rode to Dracut, & Visited Mr. Parker, came back & lodged

38) 1 {September} 1750. last night when I came from Dracut I found my horse at {Colonel} Clarks, sent there by the {Reverend} {William} Sargeant, who found his horse at the falls - This Morning Messrs Gowen & Whiting went To Boston O the Confusion & distractions Of this O! -- I wrote sermon --

2. Lords day & {Communion} day I preach'd all day from {John} 3.14.15. Admitted {Benjamin} Parker {Junior} & {Elizabeth} his wife to full {Communion} - administred sacrament [Sup't?]- & Baptism to Isaiah [[?] the son of Isaiah & Anna Foster -

3 Visited {Colonel} Clark, with my wife, dined, & Spent PM There --

4. This morning discoursed with the wife of Andrew Betty - about her being baptized - her {father} being an Anabaptist - She was not baptized in Infancy & has neglected it, to this time, {though} several of her ]children of hers have bin baptized, on [aud?] of her husband - I did not know that She was unbaptized before -- PM received a visit from {Colonel} Clark, Mr. {John} Lynn, {William} Wardel & others - In the Evening I sent for, & discoursed with {Zachariah} Emmery about, his designing to have {Ephraim} Clark, preacher, at Boston, To preach at his house tomorrow -

5. This morning heard of the Death of William, the only child of Brother & Sister, White - who died the last {Sabbath} Morning - He was a fine Child - was with Parents, to see us {about} a month ago -- I pray {God} to Sanctify this bereavement to them And To give {them} a name better than the sons & {daughters} ------ This same day Went Groton. Ministers meeting at Mr. Trowbridges, Present {Reverend} Messrs Parker, Hall {Deacon} Rogers, Stearns, Chandler & myself [?] [saw?] Mr. Hemenway who came to see us --

59) 6 {September} 1750. last night went from Groton to Littleton & lodged with Messrs Parker & Chandler at {Reverend} Mr. Rogers - {About} noon this day went home - Dined with these Gentlement at my house - I found my {brother} {John} & Sister Experience at my house, they came up yesterday.

7. PM rode to {Reverend} Mr. Parker with my brother {John}.

8. Brother & sister went to Boston.

x9. Lords day. I changed with Mr Parker & preach'd Dracut AM from {John} 3.7.8. PM from {Hebrews} 11.25. {Reverend} Mr. Parker propounded the desires of Mary the wife of {Andrew} Betty to own the {Covenant} & to be Baptized herself, & the desires of {Daniel} Foster & Sarah his wife to own {Covenant}

10. {Reverend} Mr Parker lodged with us last night & went home this morning.

11. Visited {Timothy} Adams discoursed again with him & wife about their {unchristian} way of living & with their son {Jonathan] about his being unbaptized. Visited {Samuel} Adams & dined there. {Benjamin} Haywood his wife sick & pray'd &c. {Widow} Betty his wife being to be baptized next {Sabbath} D V.

12. Attended a raising of a house at Old Mr Dutton's for his son Jonas.

13. Visited with my wife {Daniel} Prockter and dined there. PM {Thomas} Barrat & {Nathaniel} Harwood & son.

14. In my Studdy some time

15. prepared sermon

x 16. Lords day I preach'd all day from {Matthew} 28.19.20 the 3d & 4th {Sermons} upon Infant Baptism because when I preach'd {them} before, viz. last winter, it was a very stormy day & but few {people} present

19. I Dined at {Reverend} Mr. Parker's - Visited {Colonel} Clark his wife ill - {Benjamin} Howard his wife sick & pray'd &c. {John} Richardson & {Captain} {Jonathan} Richardson - Visited {Deacon} {Ephraim} Spaulding

20. Went fishing with Master Fletcher and several of the neighbors Visited {John} Mowers -

21. discoursed with {Jonathan} Barron & wife abot owning {Covenant} &c

22. Wrote Sermon. {Reverend} Mr. Parker's Son {William} dined with me - Heard Of the Death of the Aged, {Reverend} & Venerable Mr. Walter of Roxbury who departed May {God} sanctify This breath to all, & To me as well as other ministers

23. Lords day I preach'd all day from 1 {Corinthians} 10.12 read Ezra 5. {Matthew} 22 - Propounded {Covenant} to {Daniel} Foster & Sarah his wife - administred Baptism to Lydia the {daughter} of {Benjamin} & Elizabeth Pierce - & propounded {Jonathan} Barron & Rachel his wife to own {Covenant}

24. Exceedingly hurried preparing to go to Boston

25. Went to Boston & Carried Molley Stoddard with me, who has bin with us ever since last fall - I dined at Boston at my Brothers

26 dined at Brother Whites. Visited Friends

27. Dined at Mr. Baxters. Visited Friend This morning went to Roxbury To see my [mother?] but she was gone to [Mendon?]
