Service Awards

A gold and blue enamelled pin is awarded to em-
loyees who have served the hospital ten years or more.
In addition to the seal of the Massachusetts General
and McLean Hospitals, the design includes one star for
each ten years of service. Over a hundred pins have
been awarded since June 1946, of which over half
showed two stars or more.

Terminations

A week's notice is required as a munimum upon
resignation. The hospital will give a week's notice or
its equivalent, as a minimum, except in case of dismis-
sal for cause. In supervisory posistions, a month's notice
is required.

Vacations

Two weeks' vacation with pay will be granted
yearly after a year's service.

Three weeks is granted to all who have served the
hospital fifteen years continuously.

It is generally required that vacations be taken
during the summer months, as many positions cannot
be adquately covered at other times. One week's va-
cation will be granted to those who have completed six
months service before the vacation period ends.

It is expected that employees will remain in the
service of the hospital for at least two months after their
return from vacation.

Vacations are not cumulative from year to year.

Work Schedules

As in any hospital, continuous service to patients
is necessary and therefore some employees are required
to work split shifts. Also, most employees are on a six
day week.

Schedules vary in different departments, howver,
and employees will be told before they start work how
much time off they may expect and how often they will
work split ot night shifts.

Detailed schedules will be given to those who
work on the wards by the nurses in charge, and to all
others by their Department Heads or Supervisors.
