Dear Miss Eliza -

I would have
written to you before to let
you know of our sympathy.
but I have been in a good deal
of trouble myself. one of my
eys was affected and I went
to Atlanta to consult Dr Calhoun
had to have an operation performed
and while in bed with my
eyes bandaged took broken
bone fever and was in bed
for three weeks. I could not
use my eyes for some time
and this is the first letter
I have written with the aid
