Transcribing
Once you sign up for an account, a new Transcribe tab will appear above each page.
You can create or edit transcriptions by modifying the text entry field and saving. Each modification is stored as a separate version of the page, so that it should be easy to revert to older versions if necessary.
Registered users can also add notes to pages to comment on difficult words, suggest readings, or discuss the texts.
Fields
If any of the following information is omitted from the card, leave the field blank.
Last Name: Most cards begin Last Name, First Name.
First Name: If there is a middle name or middle initial, please transcribe it in the same field as the first name.
Street Address: This will be the numbers and street name only. If the address contains an abbreviation, please write it out. Ave. should be Avenue, St. should be Street, Ct. should be Court, Pl. should be Place, Blvd. should be Boulevard.
City of Residence: Do not include the state, unless it is not Indiana.
Date of Birth: Use format MM/DD/YYYY.
Place of Origin: Separate the city and country with a comma.
Book Number: Number only. Do not type Book.
Book Number: Number only. Do not type Page.
Document Number: Number only. This number is either the petition number or certificate number, depending on the source index.
Date of Document: Use format MM/DD/YYYY.
Multiple Entries: If there are multiple entries, such as two document dates or two document numbers, please transcribe both and separate them with a semicolon. if the person has two names, please list the second in the notes field, like so: See also, Bobich, Anton.
Notes: Additional information on the card, such as "Declaration is invalid," can be entered as a note.
