Jones Memorial Library MS2060 - Winston Petition
Jones Memorial Library Manuscript 2060 is a portion of the petition filed by attorneys Leigh & Anthony on behalf of Dorothea & Edmund Winston in response to a lawsuit brought by Patrick Henry's executors. Dorothea Dandridge was Henry's second wife - Henry married her in 1777 after his first wife, Sarah Shelton, died. Dorothea survived Patrick Henry when he died in 1799. A condition of his will stipulated that she would lose her inheritance if she remarried. Dorothea remarried in 1802. Her new husband, Edmund Winston, was a judge and first cousin of Patrick's.
