July 26, 1922 - Wednesday
Couldn't find the library keys today, so tried all on
two bunches, & found 2 that unlock the case between
the doors, but none to fit the other one. About 75 of
us went to the movies this aft. to see Charlie Chap-
man [Chapman [Chaplin]] in "The Kid", as they are having special mats. to-
day [today] & tomorrow for the benefit of the school children
& at a reduced price also. Mrs. E. ordered a special
car for 2 p.m. but it got there about half an hr.
later – & then there were two! We walked back, me
stopping at the G's – but they were not in – gone to
the Chinese meet., I suppose. Dr. & Mrs. T. come to
our school every morn this wk., & go to the boys ditto
next. I'm still cutting pictures – will have time for lit-
tle [little] else till I get them off hand. Mrs. H. comes to the
service every other eve; plays the little organ this &
Mon. p.m's. Neither of the older ladies present Mon.
night. It's been very warm this wk., & I'm soiling
more clothes than usual. Took, at their request, 2
of my sofa pillows down to the sitting room where
Miss P. has installed the wicker cot formerly in her
bed room, & in its place up stairs she has put her
canvas one; the other is now in the hall. Drove sev-
eral [several] nails between times for pictures, which I'll get
out later. Had a letter from Belle saying she'd sent
my bundle of shoes to Miss Prescott in N.Y. to forward
to me; & from Dr. McC. we hear that she has resigned,
too bad, but there'll be lots of changes, I'm told after
the N.B. Con. read about the S.B. Con., which met in
Jacksonville, Fla., this yr. in the last Watchman [?]
from Mrs. Higgins came a note & the news that Mar-

209
garet [Margaret] Harper has offered for the foreign field,
preferring Korea – as her bro. Joseph is there.

July 27, 1922 – Thursday
More girls came to the lib. today. Miss P. went to the station
to meet Mrs. W. so they were late for break., Dr & Mrs T remain-
ing [remaining] to break bread with us today; brought their boy along
also, who waited on the table. Went to town with Mrs. W. going
first to the D.D. S. who was out, & the press; then to the pic-
ture [picture] show, taking a gharry to both places in order to save
time, but the latter altho' we knew it had begun, had, as
ill luck would have it, put the large film first, so we
missed over half of "The Kid". All the Cath. were there this
aft., also the H's with their boys, so there was a fuller
house than yes. They had promised a complete change
of pictures today, but except for the change above men-
tioned [mentioned] there was none – worse luck! The air was dread-
ful [dreadful] – a lot of the boys smoking, & so close & hot. Then back
to the dentist's again, & after leaving there I stopped at the
press opposite but it was closed, as it was after five. Mr. Bes-
toll [Bestoll] was invited to break. with us & after accepting this a.m.
wrote a note saying it would be impossible to come, as he
was called out of town & did not expect to return till 4:30,
but I saw him as we came out of the movies, for I stopped
to introduce the H's, & he emerged so I introduced him to
Mrs. W. also Dr. T. did the playing on the little organ this eve.
he has to be seen to be appreciated, as no words of mine
can give an adequate description of him. The girls sang a-
gain [again], & Mary also had a solo. The old B. carpenter has been
making a bulletin board; Miss P. explained it all to him
the 1st of the week, then, a couple of days later, he brought
it, but it wasn't done right, so Ma Myiut had a seance
with him; he brought it again but it still isn't finished.
You get a workman out here & the 1st day he does it all
wrong; the 2nd he spends taking it all apart & the 3rd
