V Historical Significance

The struggle of Nulification was very
indecisive as both sides claimed the victory.
But they did not convince South Carolina that
she could not set aside a national law. Many
points were settled in favor of South Carolina
and that made her think she could try it
again and she did.
It also should these was more pat-
riotism now because the states were a -
gainst South Carolina and that more people
favored the nation.
Both sides were strengthened in their
arguments. The northern people
now refer to the speeches of Webster and Benton
and the Proclamation of president Jackson.
The southern people refer to the speeches of
Calhoun and Hayne and the proclamation
of the convention.
