Cotton Blossom Cake
Cream together ¾ cup shortening
2 cups sugar. Beat 4 eggs, add.
Melt over hot water 4 squares
unsweetened chocolate (4 oz.), add.
Sift 2⅓ cups flour, tsp. salt,
3½ tsp baking powder, add
alternately with 1 cup milk to
first mixture. Add 1 tsp vanilla.
Pour into 2 greased 9 inch layer
pans in moderate oven 350° 30 min.
Cool. Fill + frost with Creamy
Fudge Frosting: 4½ squares un=
sweetened choc. (4½ oz), 4 tbsp. hot
water, 2¼ cups confectioner's sugar
4 egg yolks, 4 tbsp butter, 1 tsp vanilla
Melt choc. over hot water. Remove
from heat. Add water + sugar.
Add egg yolks, 1 at a time beating
after each. Add butter 1 tbsp at a
time. Add vanilla. Make enough
to fill + frost two 9 inch layers.
Decorate with marshmallows
cut like flowers and leaves
of citron.
