Old Fashioned Johnny Cake.

1 1/2 cup white or yellow
corn meal; 1/2 cup white
flour; 1/2 cup sugar; 1/4 tsp.
salt; 1/2 tsp. soda; 1 cup
sour milk or butter milk;
1 egg; 2 tbsp. melted fat;
just a little grated mace
or nut meg. Sift flour
and corn meal, sugar
and salt together, add
fat, and milk and soda,
add egg. Bake 40-45
mins. in a moderate
oven.
