Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge the recept of your letter to me dated Sept. 7th 1864, relative to arrears of pay due to the late Sanders Hastings MD deceased as surgeon in the Indian Department of California. In persuance of instructions therein containted I applied to Supt. A. Wiley at San Francisco, to assist me in findings the original vouchers of the claim. Enclosed I transmit, his original reply. In that event, as further instructed by your letter of Sept 7th 1864, I have executed a [illegible] Bond in the sum of One Thousand Dollars, as indemnity to the United Stateds in paying me the amount claimed, which I also herewith transmit and by as such adjustment of the matter.
