That Rudolph Scherfel
do make, constitute and appoint John Ferguson my hue and lawful Attorney,
for me and in my name to adjust and settle a
certain claim of mine for services as School
master on the Mendocino Indian Reservation
California from the 1st day of april A.D 1860
to the third day of October A.D. 1860 and to
receive any sum or sums that may be due
and receiving to me and on account of said services.
with power also an attorney or attorneys under him for that purpose to make
and substitute, and to do all lawful acts requisite for effecting the premises; hereby ratifying
and confirming all that the said attorney or substitute or substitutes shall do
therein by virtue
of these presents.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and seal the
fifteenth day of August in the year of our Lord

that he executed the same freely and voluntarily, and for the uses and purposes therein
mentioned.
