[image] THE STROWBRIDGE [left column] BROADCAST [right column] SOWER.

The Strowbridge Broad Cast Seed Sower is a practical machine that commends itself to every thorough going farmer, as a common sense labor saving invention, fully up with the most practical implements for other branches of farm work, in this advanced age, and well worthy of a place on every farm. It is a well known fact that thousands of dollars are annually expended for reaping machinery of the most approved patterns, while on many of the same farms the grain is planted year after year by the tiresome, slow and unsatisfactory method of seeding by hand; while many other farmers being disgusted with the old burdensome manner of tramping day after day over the newly plowed ground, with a sack of grain swung around their shoulders, have been tempted to purchase expensive drills and do away with broadcasting, from the fact that they were unable to find the necessary implement for this sort of seeding. A perfect broadcast seeder never having been offered to the public before. As the crop depends more largely on the seed and seeding than any other elements; and as the harvest comes after and depends on the seeding, which must always be done before the reaping, it stands to reason that there is more gain and saving in using our perfect seed sower than there is in the use of the improved harvesting machinery, in fact there is a greater saving to every farmer by the use of our improved seeder, over the old manner of sowing, than there is by using the wonderfully perfect harvesting machines over the old cradle and sickle. Our seeder is a perfect success for sowing all kinds of Wheat, Rye, Oats, Flax, Barley, Buckwheat, Hungarian, Millet, Clover, Timothy, Peas, Corn and all other varieties of seed or grain; also, Plaster, Lime, Salt, Gauno, Ashes, all the various phosphates used for fertillizers - in fact everything requiring broadcasting, any quantity per acre, and better and faster than by any other method. The seeder is well and strongly built of good material and is not liable to get out of repair. Its operation is so simple that anyone can use it, and with good care it will last a life time. It is light, weighing only 75 pounds. Can be readily attached to any wagon or cart in a few moments, without the slightest injury to it, as shown in the cut. The seeder fits in any wagon in the place of the end-gate; it is driven by a large drive wheel attached to the rear wagon wheel. The quantity of seed is regulated by gauge plates, fully described under directions for operation later in this circular. The seeder can be used in the corn field, and wherever the wagon can be driven, as well as on even ground.

THE WIND. The operation of our seeder is not effected by any ordinary wind. This is a most valuable feature, and one that recommends it over any seeder that throws its seed into the air. With the Strowbridge, the grain is not thrown at any point higher than the wagon bed, and is delivered to the ground where it is wanted, with great force, which can be readily understood, when it is known that it finishes a cast of wheat 40 feet wide. In comparing the delivery with any seeder that throws the grain up into the air to be drived at the pleasure of the wind, the great superiority of our invention can be readily understood in this respect. This point alone renders it a valuable and reliable seeder in territory subject to spring winds, as all of the Great North-west especially is, where other seeders are practically useless.

THE CAST. The Strowbridge delivers a single cast, all on either side of the wagon; or a double one, evenly distributed on both sides, as desired. The cast is regulated by a simple device for shifting the grain from one side to the other or discharging it on both sides. The single cast is a convenient feature, for finishing up lands, or running near fences, thus saving the waste of grain, and lapping.
