My darling sweetheart I hope very much that you will like this ring. It is a present for Dec 7th, & although it will be a few days late I expect, you will know that it is on its way, because I shall cable you for the day & tell you it is coming. You will see from thenote enclosed that there are two of them. Rex bought the other one for Marjorie - so if you see hers', you must not think they are mass produced. was quite cheap - 150 piasties, which is 30/. I must not write much, because this is going Air Mail - but I shall finish a long letter within 3 or 4 days & this may arrive together. Also, I have to write you two more letters, to go with Christmas presents, which I am sending to you seperately, for safety. One is a lovely piece of Egyptian silk which I have had made into a dressing gown for you. And the other is a pair of knickers & a petticoat, & two pairs of stockings. These are too heavy to air mail. But I want to tell you, Barbara dearest darling, that after being married for five years, I love you more than I ever thought possible - I just worship you, my sweetheart. You have been sweet & wonderful to me

My darling sweet Barbara I am very unhappy as I write this. I cabled you a week ago, & confidently expected a reply by now, but none has come. It is heartbreaking that these things are so slow, but I suppose we shall have to get used to it. It is nearly two months now that I have had no news of you at all, & it would make so much difference if I could only know that you are safe & well - & where you are & what you are doing. I can't think about anything else at all.
