Woodstock, Dec 17, 1861.

Dear Friend William. my wife and I seat ourselfs to let you know how I get along wich I assure you is not very well. I arrived home tuesday night and if there was ever a sick man on Earth I was and have been ever since. I have had the doctor every day but dont seem to get much beter. my cough is not any better than it was when I left you but I am in hopes it will be for I want to be out there with you again. you may tell Dr. Allan how my health is and that dr. [hasom?] is doctoring me. he sais it will be more than 30 days before he can cure me so I shall be able to come back. give my best

respect to [Curtis?] Sanborn [Snooks?] and all the rest of them and excepts a good share of them your self. my wife sends her best wishes to and would like to see you. Well I dont think of much more to write this time and so hoping you wil receive these few lines. I remain yours most Sincearly and devoted Friend
