Camp near Williamsport. Oct 31st 1862

Dear Mother

Thy last good letter finished at
Horace's was rec'd some days since and
must now receive a short & hasty reply.
Since I wrote thee last some changes in
my situation, of which I will write first so
as to be sure of writing some news M.All-
aster returned to the Company last week
& he & I now occupy one of the tents in
Co. "G." As I wrote the before, I did not
think the business in the Q.M. Office was
as well for my health as I wished it
might be & thinking the Co. more con
ducive in that respect I returned to
it, for my own good & from my own
choice, too, as the Q.M. urged me very
hard to remain with him & went
to Capt. Carpenter once or twice to get
my stay prolonged, with him till I got
in earnest, and left

At any rate, if anything is sent to
me, either betters or other please direct to
Washington, as you did last winter

If a box is sent, send it by Express &
take a receipt of the agent at Montpelier
to send to me if I do not get it readily.
I have never heard if the valise got
home or not. Has it? If we go to W. I will
write from there if possible. Give my
love to Mary. I am very sorry to hear
she is worse. My love to all.
