My dear Friend

Once more "smiling
on my back" I greet you. My third
day's duty in the comp. sends me here
with slight wound. Two hours ago some
of my rebel friends sent a minnie
ball through the fleshy part of my
thigh- it is only severe and painful;
not dangerous. I was able to walk
from the field. Do not fear for me:
I was on duty and this leaves me no fear
for the result, be what it may.

My bed is the ground, my shelter the
Canopy: but my pillow is softened
by a clear conscience, I shall most
likely be in Vt in a weeks time

Even as ever Yours
