My dear Cousin The two enclosed letters came into my hand yesterday & the day before. I wrote immediately to E. C. Manchester stating the existence & whereabout of Cousin [Thos's?] sisters & half brother & recommending him to address any communication he might wish to make, to [underline]thee[/underline] as thou hast sons who were capable of transacting any necessary business. I trust you will be successful in obtaining your rights. Cousin Thomas B. Stevens will doubtless obtain from some competent lawyer the necessary method of procedure in order to identify [underline]you[/underlin] as the lawful heir. I think there can be no doubt of your success - Sister A. is writing to thee so I will not forstall her

All well

With [Endeared?] affection thy loving cousin

P.M at Ferrisburgh

Dear Sir

I take the liberty of addressing a line to you in order if possible to find some Brother, Sister or relation of one Thomas G. Byrd who died here near this place some 25 years since. The only child of his widow died lately possessed of the farm left by the said Byrd and by the law of our state the property reverts back to the heirs of his ancestors and not knowing where any of this Byrd family live I take this method knowing by the way of old letters that one Mary D. Byrd sister of the above named Thos G. Byrd lived at Ferrisburgh and knowing of no better way to ascertain than by the way of the P.M. at your place therefore this letter. Hoping to gain the necessary information from you I request that if any of the family are in your plan you will deliver this to them and if not will you please answer by return mail and oblige

Yours truly E. C. Manchester Battle Creek Mich

I hope to get an answer soon, as it is of considerable importance to all concerned
