Dear cousin

Rachel if I could convey to thee an idea of our very interesting Quarterly Meeting which has just past I should be paid for the attempt but as that is imposable I will write what I can. we missed cousin R. B. Stevens at our house very much. we realize it all the time from Monthly to Quarterly Meeting time. I had a very easy time Quarterly meeting week for we hired a young girl to help Celia which releiced me from house work but our meetings were very long & interesting. I think it was half past three when we got home fourth day. David Benet praid & preached before we turned to business & after the business was through the shetters wer raisd by the request of Joseph Hoag & we had a good sermon from him. fifth day we had a long & very interesting [underline]Meeting[/underline] but one thing to mar its excelence there was a good many little preeches which wer very good & some very long sermons & praye then a very touching & feeling farewell

from David Benet; thee may ask where has he been. ever since the funeral of Brother Roberts [strikeout] he was at Lincoln two months three weeks very sick then he had many appointed meeting when he was barely able to attend & preach then went back to Levi Meaders & went on to his bed & needed [nursing?]. his meetings wer very satisfactory & we here that many wer convinced sectarianism seemed laid aside. Ministers & others from all the diferent Societies attended his meetings & confessed they liked to here the truth preached. as soon as D. Benet was able to ride here he came attended our Meeting & then took the cars & went to Queensburg. was gone two weeks but not feeling quite easy to go on home he came back & attended oure Monthly & Quarterly Meetings & then started for home in poor health. we have not heard from him since. Joseph D Hoag is still visiting about Monkton. expects to be at Lincoln first day then go to Queensburg to attend Saratoga Quarter & some meetings belonging to it then come back & go to Montpelier & back east; he has had news of the Death of his sister Martha Meader. we here by him

Rufus & I called yesterday to see Ann King. found her mostly confined to her bed with Siattica. she said she was very well except that hip & limb which by spells is very painful. Rowland dont think she will get well very soon. after calling there we went to Lydia wings found Rachel much better than I ever expected to see her. she is about the house & rides out. thinks she shall be able to attend meetings again. but poor Ruth Holmes we have visited with her to day she is realy sick. I dont know but her griefe will ware her out. her Brothers wife is with her yet but dont feel as if she could stay much longer. George Thomas has taken away there boy & I dont know but Ruth will leave. the rest of our relatives & friends are in usual health except aunt Sally Holmes she seems to be wearing out slowly.
